Have you read the Sugar Impact Diet by JJ Virgin yet? You should! It is SO interesting! Here are some of my favorite parts from the book.
"Many times when a sugar craving hits, your body is really crying out for protein....If you read for protein instead, it will actually help curb your cravings for sweets by giving your body the kind of sustained energy it really needs."
"Researchers at the University of South Florida found that when people are stressed, they crave foods that are higher in sugar and fat. But ironically, sugar actually stresses your body further, shooting it full of short- term energy, sending your hormones into a spin cycle and causing your blood sugar to spike and them plummet."
"A sugar high is a real thing, as is sugar addiction. As Dr. Pamela Peeke, author of The Hunger Fix, explained to me, "Animal studies have shown that refined sugar is more addictive than cocaine, heroin or morphine. An animal will choose an Oreo over morphine. Why? This cooke has the perfect combination of sugar and fat to hijack the brain's reward center"
All quotes are from, The Sugar Impact Diet by JJ Virgin.

Day 1
Today is my first day on the Sugar Impact Diet. To get ready for the week I write out a list of dinners that my fiancé and I want to have for the week. I use left overs and random things we have around the house for lunch. I also put our food into mason jars and clear containers in the fridge and pantry. I've learned that this makes the foods look SO MUCH more appetizing! Check this out...
Which one are you more likely to grab for a snack?
I am sure you said the green beans in the mason jar right? I get our food for the week ready on Sunday. We have mason jars of radishes, peppers, hummus, carrots, celery, etc. When my food looks nice I get more excited about eating it!
Meals for Day 1:
Breakfast: JJ Virgin Shake
Lunch: Ham/cheese roll up, hummus, peppers, cheese cubes
Snack: Pumpkin seeds (from Trader Joes!)
Dinner: Chicken Stir Fry
Virgin Diet vs. Sugar Impact Diet
JJ Virgin has two diets that she has created (or lifestyles as I like to say). The first one is the Virgin Diet. In the Virgin Diet you cut out 7 foods (sugar/artificial sweeteners, corn, dairy, eggs, gluten, peanuts and soy) and then reintroduce them to see which foods you are intolerant to and are causing you to gain weight. This is the diet my dad and I originally did. I then heard about her Sugar Impact Diet which I am IN LOVE WITH!
I am a sugarholic. If there are donuts or any type of sweets in the teachers lounge at school I will not stop thinking about them until I have whatever it is. I crave sugar all the time and hate that it has taken over my life. When I heard about JJ's Sugar Impact Diet I was so interested. I read the book and was ready to get going! (I also watched Fed Up which got me even more excited!) Basically what you do is for two weeks you eliminate ALL sugars. I know this sounds hard but it only 2 weeks of your life. You can do anything for 2 weeks!
The week before (last week for me) I tapered off of sugar. Do not go into it cold turkey otherwise you will most likely end up failing. You need to slowing taper yourself off of sugar. So this past week I tapered and today I have begun DAY 1!! I will be logging my success on the Sugar Impact Diet as I go.
I am ready to kiss my sugar cravings GOODBYE!!

I Want CHOCOLATE!!
Today is my first day back on the Virgin Diet. By that I mean I am starting from day 1 and will stay on it for 3 weeks to test my food intolerances. I have a HUGE sweet tooth..I mean I will probably be thinking about eating chocolate all day today. However, I have a few tricks to kick those sugar cravings. One is lemon water. I use doTERRA oils in my water to help with cravings. doTERRA oils are essential oils that can be used for many different things (you can actually replace your medicine cabinet with them!). I use 3 drops of Lemon and 3 drops of Wild Orange in my water and that really helps with my cravings. I also have a Grapefruit essential oil that I LOVE as well...which is funny since I hate grapefruit but for some reason I love the oil! I also make a lemon-aid drink which I heard first from JJ Virgin. I do about 32 oz of water with 1-2 squeezed lemons and add stevia or monk fruit.

Getting Started
Some things you should know before you read on:
This lifestyle WILL change your life! You WILL have more energy and feel SO much better! You will LOVE how you feel and the Virgin Diet will become a lifestyle! You won't want to go back to your old ways after this.
When my dad first told me about how the Virgin Diet works I honestly thought he way crazy. He told me he cut out 7 foods from his diet and it just sounded nuts! You can read about the 7 foods to eliminate during Phase 1 here. Now I will warn you, if you read the blog post on the link you will most likely be overwhelmed. I was too at first. It really wasn't until I read The Virgin Diet that I was sold on the lifestyle. My advice would be to buy the book or do your research on the Virgin Diet before you say "it is too hard", "that is too much work" or "that is going to be expensive". None of those are true and I am going to blog to prove it to you! I will be starting from day 1 and writing about my journey through JJ's program. Feel free to ask questions if you plan to join me :)

The....What Lifestyle?!
About two years ago I was sitting at Nothing But Noodles with my mom and dad. While ordering, my dad was asking questions like, "Does that have soy?...What about gluten?" I looked at him and said, "What the heck are you talking about? Why do you care?" Little did I know, his answer would change my lifestyle completely.
My dad introduced me to what is called, The Virgin Diet. The diet, or lifestyle as I call it, was formed by JJ Virgin. I have followed JJ Virgin on Facebook and read her blog posts and articles that she has written and I always learn something new! Check her out on Facebook: JJ Virgin Facebook Page
My goal with this blog is to record my experience on the JJ Virgin Diet and JJ's Sugar Impact Diet to help others with their weight loss goals!
Note: All blog entries are based on my own experiences. I have chosen to blog about my weight loss and lifestyle change to help others be successful.
